- The first issue of Seventh Regiment Gazette in 1886 expressed the aim that it “become the exponent of the military genius, the resumé of the literary taste, an echo of the social life of the Seventh Regiment.” The Gazette appeared regularly until publication ceased in 1940. During that time it functioned as the organ of the Seventh Regiment of the New York Militia, offering a variety of regimental and company news, details of social events, athletics results, and obituaries, complemented by biographical and historical sketches, fiction, and poetry. Issues also contained numerous illustrations and extensive advertisements for products and services relevant to its subscribers.
