Military topographic maps. Maps cover the towns of Fishkill and Phillipstown in Putnam County and of Peekskill in Westchester County, New York. They show roads running through Fishkill, Fishkill Village, McKeel Corners, Nelson Corners, Travis Corners, Cortlandville and Garrison. They also show buildings and owners’ names; also landforms and streams. Pen-and-ink on laid paper. Recto, covering the area south of Fishkill Village and Beacon, has an inverted cartouche at the upper center or north end of sheet. Verso, covering an area further south and nearer Peekskill, has an upright cartouche at the upper right or north end of sheet. Titles in cartouches recto and verso are the work of a later editor--Simeon DeWitt or his assign--subsequent to 1820. Index title, statement of responsibility, date, series title and series numbering are in Erskine’s hand and may be cited as such, but exist on a separate index sheet filed at head of series.
