We have been fortunate in securing from Mrs. Katharine Prentis Murphy a portrait of Mrs. Sarah Presbury West by Christian Gullager (1762-1826), painted c. 1798; and from the gifted brush of Mr. DeWitt M. Lockman a distinguished portrait of our President, Fenwick Beekman, M.D., which now hangs with portraits of other officers of the Society in the Library. From Mr. George A. Zabriskie has come a fine crayon portrait of Henri de Gallon (1752-1837) by John James Audubon (1785-1851) which the eminent ornithological artist drew in Louisville, Kentucky, where the two men were neighbors. This is an important and welcome addition to our superb Audubon collection. Our miniature collection has been enlarged by the addition of a miniature of the Honorable Alfred Anderson Smith (1808-1845), Comptroller of the City of New York in 1842, by an unidentified artist (gift of Mrs. Julia Dickson Smith Rhodes); a miniature of Peter H.
