Report of the Board of Trustees gifts for special purposes were $5,295 received from Mr. William E. Benjamin, $3,109 from Mr. George A. Zabriskie, $375 from Mr. Norvin H. Green, and $1,000 from an anonymous donor. Various collections are constantly being improved in arrangement and augmented. These changes and the special exhibitions provide a freshness of scene which has been greatly praised by visitors. It was President Zabriskie's wish to create not only a museum and art gallery worthy of the name, but also a homelike atmosphere. The carpeted stairs, cloth-covered walls, scatter rugs, and comfortable settees in the galleries, as well as the organ music on Saturdays and Sundays in the auditorium (which is heard also in the galleries) have made his wish come true. The day-lighted galleries of the Society have been publicized in the architectural magazine, Pencil Points, as the most beautifully lighted galleries in the United States, and, to our knowledge, this is not an exaggeration. To keep pace with the trend of the times in social security, the Society gave to each employee a thousand-dollar life insurance policy, and registered each one in the Associated Hospital Service of New York, which provides for hospitalization in case of illness, without cost to them. A pension plan is also under study, which may be consummated during the coming year. BOARD OF TRUSTEES A number of changes in the officers and Board of Trustees occurred during the year 1939. The death of President John Abeel Weekes, in April, caused the chief office of the Society to be vacant. Another sad loss was sustained in the death of Mr. Augustus C. Hone, Fourth Vice-President of the Society. Mr. Harris Fahnestock, a newly elected trustee, died shortly after his election. These deaths, together with the several resignations, created vacancies, all of which have been most successfully filled. Mr. George A. Zabriskie was chosen President, Mr. Samuel V. Hoffman, Honorary President, Mr. Robert E. Dowling, First Vice- President, Dr. Fenwick Beekman, Second Vice-President, Mr.
