William Cullen Bryant (November 3, 1794 - June 12, 1878) was an American romantic poet and an editor of the New-York Evening Post for much of his professional career. Edward Dickinson Baker (February 24, 1811 - October 21, 1861) was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois, and later became a U.S. senator representing Oregon. He joined the Union forces and commanded a brigade along the Potomac River, but was killed at the battle of Ball's Bluff in 1861. About the Creator: James Gates was a publisher in Cincinnati, Ohio during the American Civil War.
