Joseph Wheeler (10 Sept. 1836-25 Jan. 1906) Graduated from West Point in 1859. Officer in the Confederate Army during the U.S. Civil War who served as a cavalry general. Wheeler became the Confederacy's senior cavalry officer following the death of General J. E. B. Stuart. He operated primarily in Tennessee After the Civil War, Wheeler was elected numerous time from Alabama to the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat.
