Marsena Rudolph Patrick (11 Mar. 1811-27 July 1888) Graduated from West Point in 1835. Prior to the Civil War, he served as the President of the�New York State Agricultural College. During the Civil War, he was an officer in the United States Army, serving as a general in the�Union volunteer forces. He was appointed provost marshal general of the Army of the Potomac by General McClellan in 1862. In 1864 General Grant appointed him provost marshal of all Union armies operating against Richmond. He was later charged with establishing order in the fallen city of Richmond.
