Robert Anderson (14 June 1805-26 Oct. 1871) Commanding officer of Union Army forces at Fort Sumter during the secession of the Southern states. Anderson was The Union's first hero of the Civil War, and was promoted to the position of brigadier general. Anderson retired on 27 October 1863 and was replaced by William Tecumseh Sherman.
