On the verso, a sketch of two figures are likely of Captain Bailey and his Midshipman entering New Orleans. Also on the verso are various inscriptions., Joseph Bailey, a civil engineer from Ohio, served as Captain of Company D, 4th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment, and later as a brigadier and a Major General. After the capture of New Orleans, Bailey was chief engineer for the City of New Orleans.
