On December 29th, the Society held a memorial celebration honoring the memory of Emma Thursby (1845-1931), noted concert singer of her time, and marking the publication of her biography by Richard McCandless Gipson. A concert was held in the Assembly Hall, at which Dr. Walter Damrosch spoke on "Reminiscences of Emma Thursby," and Miss Jean Dickenson, of the Metropolitan Opera Company sang selections from the Thursby repertory. Dr. Fenwick Beekman, Mr. Richard Gipson and our Director also spoke, following which a special exhibition of Thursby memorabilia was opened and a reception to meet Miss Ina Love Thursby was held in the Board Room.
