60 The New-York Historical Society seums and business firms in lending material for special exhibitions: Brooklyn Museum, Citizens Savings Bank-Midtown Branch, Doubleday-Doran Book Shops, Federal Hall Museum, Franklin Society for Home Building and Savings, James McCreery & Co., Ludwig Baumann, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Museum for the Arts of Decoration of Cooper Union, Museum of the City of New York, Saks at 34th Street, and Toy Manufacturers of the U S. A. The curator appeared on a broadcast at Station WNYC on November ist with Miss Olive Lyford, coordinator of Art Exhibits for the 1940 New York World's Fair. The subject of the broadcast was "Campaigning without Electricity." For the Society's monthly lecture in November, he gave an illustrated lecture on "John Rogers, American Sculptor" and also contributed two articles to the Society's Quarterly Bulletin. It is unfortunate to report that on July 23 d, a sword which originally belonged to General Jose Paez, a former President of Venezuela, was stolen. A reward was offered for its return but as yet it has not been found. The Society was enriched by many generous donations throughout the year, most of which were acknowledged in the Quarterly Bulletin. In the Museum department, 970 objects, a gain of 382 items over 1939, were received. These included silver, ceramics, furniture, costumes, textiles, flags, military and naval relics, and other items of historical interest. Last year there were 84 donors and this year's list numbers 116.
