Annual Report and List of Members 19 The recataloguing of the library with Library of Congress cards continues slowly with 7,114 cards being added during the year. About 50,000 miscellaneous books and pamphlets of backlog accumulation were classified and shelved. Twelve hundred volumes of periodicals were bound during the year, and some of our early New York State printed documents are being rebound. We were able to clean and oil some 10,500 leather-bound volumes that needed this treatment. Special attention was given to our music collection, resulting in a better arrangement and the beginning of a card catalogue of it. There are more than 200 items which bear American imprints previous to 1820. Included also are 400 songsters, published in America from 1785 to 1890, in which will be found the songs of the War of 1812 and the Civil War, temperance songs and songs of the political campaigns of the 19th century. In addition, there are many thousands of broadsides and songs and ballads of the 18th and 19th centuries. Sheet music is also represented by several thousand pieces. Our large collection of pamphlets relating for the most part to slavery and the South is being assorted and arranged, and 567 imprints were bound and placed in the imprint section. In the early part of the year the Library arranged an exhibition to commemorate the 500th anniversary of printing with movable type. Over 500 of the Society's rare pamphlets, books, and broadsides were shown. Another exhibition of rare imprints and manuscripts was given for the Conference of Historical Societies, which met at the Society on Friday afternoon, December 27th. Mrs. Bella C. Landauer's continued active interest in trade cards added many items to the ever-growing collection presented by her. Often the material to be found in these files is the only source of information for the researcher. The system of arranging these data under subject and industry headings makes consultation easy and the material quickly available. A visit to the Book
