The original draft of only one other of the eighty-five essays comprising the Federalist Papers is known still to exist. Of more importance is the fact that the essay, in Jay's handwriting, tends to prove him the author of No. 64 rather than Madison or Hamilton—a point long disputed by historians. An avalanche of publicity followed. The New York Times reported this "major historical find" on its front page, including in its five- column account a photostat of a paragraph from the draft. This was a story of national interest, and the discovery was mentioned in papers from almost every State in the Union. One of the functions of this department is to publicize the various film programs, concerts, and lectures offered to the public, and the educational programs offered to the metropolitan schools.
