Presented to the Society by Mrs. Mary Mintz Koffler, these views include 1893 vignettes of Brooklyn and The Bronx and of squatters' shanties in upper Manhattan. The Society also purchased three interesting New York State views. One is a view, ca. 1847, of the Hudson River at Sing Sing. It is the work of the German-born artist Joseph Vollmering (1810-1887). Another is an 1863 watercolor landscape by John WiUiam Hill (1812-1879), and a third is an undated, early nineteenth century pencil sketch called View from Barhydt's Upper Piazza near Saratoga Springs House. It was drawn by John Hazlehurst Boneval Latrobe (1803-1891) when Saratoga was developing from a wilderness setting into a fashionable resort town. This miniature of Elizabeth Schuyler, daughter of General Philip Schuyler and wife of Alexander Hamilton, was painted by Henry Inman in 1825. Gift of Mrs. Alexander Hamilton.
