Four Film Programs for High School Juniors and Seniors: By special arrangement with nbc-tv the four documentary films listed in this section were shown in programs arranged for high school and prep-school juniors and seniors preparing for college entrance examinations. These four films present a comprehensive survey of American history during the first forty years of the 20th century. Film showings were at 2:30 p.m. Films: April 15, The Innocent Years (1900-1917); April 17, The Great War; April 2s, The Jazz Age; April 2;, Back in the Thirties. Film Programs of American Anniversaries: During October and November six programs of art, documentary, feature, and news films were shown on Saturday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. These were arranged in connection with important centennials and other anniversaries in American history. Films: October 11, Alaska: The Forty-Ninth State, Alaska: A Modern Frontier, The Great Land of Alaska, and Angler's Paradise; October 18, Theodore Roosevelt Centennial, Theodore Roosevelt— American, Attempt to Assassinate Theodore Roosevelt; October 2;, Theodore Roosevelt—American (2nd showing), The Innocent Years, Theodore Roosevelt; November 8, Minnesota Statehood Centennial, They Called It Minnesota, Minnesota: Star of the North; November is, Three New York Centennials: (1) YWCA Organized in New York as "Ladies Christian Association," film: "The Widening Circle"; (2) St. Patrick's Cathedral Cornerstone Laid, film: "Gospel in Stone"; (3) Mathew Brady Studio Established in New York City, film: "The True Story of the Civil War" (based on Brady wet-plate photographs); November 22, Brigham Young (Centennial of the defiance of Federal Government by Young and Mormon followers finally put down by Federal troops, 1858); and on Veterans Day, November 11, there was a showing of the film "The Great War" to mark the 40th anniversary of the armistice which ended World War I. Two Special Programs for Children: December 13, Mayflower Memorial Program (Commemorating the Landing of the Mayflower passengers at Plymouth, Mass., on December 18, 1620): "Mayflower Cabin Boy," a puppet play by the Victoria Puppet Players; also there was a showing of the color film "Mayflower II," about the voyage of Mayflower II in 1957; December 20, Children's Christmas Film Program: Christmas on Grandfather's Farm, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, On the Twelfth Day, and Town Musicians.
