76 The New-York Historical Society in the newspaper-stack elevator were reset at the request of the Building Department of the City of New York. A leak in the granite wall on the south side of the third-floor level of the main building was repaired by the Bandow Contracting Company. Our own staff made all repairs to plumbing, heating, and electrical equipment except as noted above and also repaired the Venetian blinds, doors and windows. We recovered thirty upholstered seats in the Auditorium with new plastic material, and repaired several leaks in the roof. Construction work: Our staff built and installed office partitions, a new Vinyl floor and table top, and new lighting fixtures in the secretaries' office. We spent the time of two men for four weeks in installing 492 much-needed new fluorescent lighting fixtures on twelve floors of the main bookstack. We installed on the west wall of the Prentis Gallery the front facade of the Curtis- Robinson House of c. 1766 from Southington, Connecticut; made and installed a built-in wall case in the main-floor west corridor. Our carpenter made seven tables, ten small pedestals, two show cases, ten painting frames, thirty print frames, ten stretchers, and repaired six old frames. He cut and sanded the edges of 45 plywood boards, cut 52 masonite boards to order, and cut down 34 old print frames. House cleaning: During August the floors of the Library, Map and Print Room, and the Military Gallery were stripped down to the bare wood and refinished with shellac and two coats of wax. All other wooden floors were steel-wooled and rewaxed. All terrazzo and tile floors were machine-scrubbed and refinished; all marble floors and baseboards were cleaned and polished. All glass in windows and showcases was cleaned, curtains and draperies were drycleaned and rehung, and all' carpets and rugs were thoroughly cleaned. The furniture on exhibition in the galleries, Library desk, tables and chairs and those in the Map and Print Room and the offices were cleaned, waxed and polished.
