[Letter from Austin & Laurens to Messrs. Samuel & William Vernon]
1756-07-05
Manuscript copy of a letter dated June 24, 1756, from Austen & Laurens of Charleston [South Carolina] to William and Samuel Vernon of Newport, Rhode Island regarding a shipment of slaves delivered by Captain [Caleb] Godfrey for sale on the Vernon's behalf. Followed by a letter in which Austin and Laurens express their concern that the slaves, whom they consider to be of inferior quality, will not sell well if another Sloop arrives in the harbor.
