QUARTERLYBULLETIN 27 forces in America from 1763 to 1772. This collection of 30,000 documents has never been calendared. It includes many of Sir Jeffrey Amherst's papers. The General Nathaniel Greene papers, dating 1771-1783, are the only ones of an American general in the Clements collection, and are contained in 15 folio volumes and many boxes. A large collection of Sir John Vaughan's papers relating to his command in the West Indies are also here. Sir Henry Clinton's manuscript history of the Revolutionary War in two folio volumes, never published, is an exceedingly interesting record. The Lord George Germaine papers in 15 volumes and 12 packets form the principal lot of state papers in Bay City. As he was Secretary of State in charge of American affairs during the Revolutionary War, they are invaluable in the study of American history. Many other smaller lots of papers covering the reign of George III and George IV are in Bay City, including a large number of those of Sir William Pitt. There are also several hundred original maps relating to the Revolutionary and earlier periods. During a week's sojourn in Michigan, working in the two depositories, the librarian of the Society gained a comprehensive idea of this great wealth of material. Much of our printed history will need revision after a study of these collections, especially the Sir Henry Clinton intelligence papers of the Revolutionary War.
