To the honourable John Matthews, Esquire, Speaker, and the rest of the Honourable the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina. , , The Humble Petition of John Gibbes, , Sheweth, , That your Petition is entitled to the value of the Negro man named [?] executed pursuant to the order of the Justices mentioned in the annexed Certificate and appraised at the sum of seven hundred pounds current money. , , Your Petitioner therefore beg [sic] your Honourable [sic] House to take his case into consideration and order him immediate payment or to grant him such relief as in your wisdom shall seem meet. , , [Signed] John Gibbes, , Charlestown, 12 February 1777
