Military topographic map covering the town of Rampo in Rockland County, New York, and the townships of Orvil, Ridgewood and Saddle River in Bergen County, New Jersey. In five segments, ordered north to south as follows: recto left, recto top right, recto bottom right, recto center, verso. Shows roads running through Hempstead and Spring Valley in New York, Upper Saddle River, Saddle River, Paramus and South Paterson in New Jersey. Also shows streams, buildings and owner's names.
Inked title and statement of responsibility original; handwriting throughout item is Erskine's.
Date based on comparison with Erskine's "Surveys Done for His Excy General Washington 1778 & 1779."
Pen-and-ink, pencil on laid paper.
Watermark: "S & K", similar but not identical to Gravell and Miller foreign watermark no. 610.
Foxed, creased and abraded. Cleaned after removal of backings 1999; some fill remains. Sheathed in mylar.
Includes unrelated text in ink on verso: "Capt Gray to begin at the 15 mile Stone and proceed up the Clove to New Windsor & New Borough Cross at Contl Ferry & Survey to Fishkill from thence to Peeks Kill & Kings ferry where he shall end. Mr Lodge to begin at the 15 Mile Stone and proceed by Suffrans to Kings ferry there Cross and proceed to to [sic] Tarry Town. Mr Henderson to begin at Kings ferry and proceed throu the Mountains over Dunderberg to ft. Montgomery thence to fort Arnold thence to Murderers Creek and End after he meets the Road at R[enoles] Dock.
