About the Creator: Born in Ireland, John William Orr (March 31, 1815 - 1887) became a prominent wood engraver and printer. He received a premier education from William Redfield, a distinguished artist in New York City. Since then, Orr engraved and published many works including his well-known Orr's Pictorial Guide to Niagara Falls (1842). Soon after moving to New York City and working for Harper Brothers' 'Illustrated Shakespeare,' Orr began running his own engraving and publishing business at 75 and 77 Nassau Street in lower Manhattan.
