The olive branch is a popular symbol in the evolving American political and cultural zeitgeist. The Continental Congress sent King George III an Olive Branch Petition as attempt to avoid further armed conflict. The Great Seal of the President of the United States depicts a bald eagle holding (and facing) an olive branch with its dexter talon.
