Includes mention of Brig Alert and Ship Hector, carrying slaves from the Coast of Africa to Barbados. Letter signed 'F. H. V E', Charleston [South Carolina]. On verso, letter dated May 8, 1784 to Messrs. Lycott and Maxwell of Barbados regarding communication between Captain William Lewellin of the Ship Hector and Mr. John Anderson of Bristol on January 20, 1784. Signed 'S. : [Manifest of the Steamer Powhatan]; Ship manifest of "negroes, mulattoes, and persons of color taken on" the Steamer Powhatan of Washington from the port of Alexandria [Virginia]. Includes names of ship's Master J. Rogers, owner Thomas Javins, and collector Saul Stough. Lists 12 slaves.

: No. 11, Remarks; Remarks given [probably by Samuel or William Vernon] regarding a case against Captain Thomas Rogers, who is accused of producing falsified trade books and trading to his own benefit in Barbados, Cape de Verdes, St. Christopher, and Isle de Los. Document describes several instances of disregard for trade orders from the ship's owners.

: Sales of slaves [aboard] Brig Marian, Captain George Lawton, from Africa; Two-page account of "negro sales" taken from the Brig Marian, Captained by George Lawton from Africa. Includes names of purchasers, number of slaves purchased, and total cost. Many slaves listed as "dead."

: [Bill from B. Cocke, Junior, to Robert Cary]; Bill from Bowler Cocke, Jr., to Robert Cary of London, for remittance of payment to Richard Adams [of Virginia]. On back, directions from Richard Adams to pay directly to Samuel and William Vernon & Co.

: [Letter from A. P. Aldrich to Lysander Spooner]; Undated one-page letter labeled "Private" from A. P. Aldrich to Lysander Spooner [of Boston, Massachusetts], asking for his legal opinions on case Ogden vs. Saunders and offering his observations on the "[] and the disposition of the Southern people."

: [Manuscript draft of a letter from Lysander Spooner to Gerrit Smith]; Manuscript draft of a four-page letter from Lysander Spooner in Athol [Massachusetts] to Gerrit Smith in Peterboro, New York, dated July 24, 1848, in which Spooner discusses his inability to raise funds for himself and explains reasons why the public should provide him assistance.

: Resolves relating to Slavery & the Slave Trade & the admission of new States into the Union.; Resolution produced by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the United States Congress must abolish slavery in the District of Columbia. Includes note that the "resolves were passed by the House in the 21st, & by the Senate of the 23 March" and that the resolutions are the same that are referred to in the letters of E. Jackson and R. C. Winthrop.

: [Bill of Sale of the Estate of George Harlan]; Four-page bill of sale of the estate of George Harlan by his executor Henry Harlan, including the slaves Myra, Mary, Sarah, Cyrus, George, and Henry, in Lincoln County, Kentucky.

: [Memorandum regarding the sale of a slave and her child to Mrs. Elsworth]; Two-page memorandum regarding the sale of a "negro wench and child sold at publick vendue [sic], to Mrs. Elsworth for eight pound." Includes list of 3 "articles" outlining the terms of sale set forth by executor William Elsworth. Signed by witnesses Jeremiah Elsworth and William Wallace [?].

: Inventory and appraisement of the Estate of Homer Virgil Milton deceased; Four-page inventory of Homer Virgil Milton [probably of Jefferson County, Georgia]. Includes names and estimated value of aprroximately 32 slaves, among other household goods. Signed on last page by appraisers Samuel Clements, Robert Lowry, Tom Rim [?], and "Mark T." Made official and signed by Sherrod Arrington.

: [Manuscript copy of a letter from Thomas Earle to G. Braburn, Esq.]; Manuscript copy in Lysander Spooner's hand of a four-page letter dated April 12, 1845, from Thomas Earle in Philadelphia [Pennsylvania] to G. [George] Bradburn, in which he gives lengthy critique of Lysander Spooner's book [probably The Unconstitutionality of Slavery] and the abolitionist movement in general.

: Petition by George Wooley against A. O. Roberts; Two-page petition by George Wooley against A. O. Roberts requesting a recision of a previous contract regarding the purchase from A. O. Roberts by George Wooley of the slave girl named Ann, on the ground that the negro slave is unsound and diseased, in Fayette County, Kentucky [previous contract attached].

: [Letter from John Parrish to William Dilwyn]; Four-page letter from John Parrish of Philadelphia to William Dilwyn regarding the American Antislavery movement. Includes mention of several slaveholders who manumitted their own slaves, as well as several Quakers involved in the abolition of slavery.

: [Letter from L. Spooner to Bradburn]; Two-page letter dated August 21, 1855, from L. [Lysander] Spooner to [George] Bradburn, in which he forwards a letter from E. D. Linden of New Bedford [Massachusetts] dated August 15, 1855, that invites Bradburn to lecture in his town.

: [Letter from Gerrit Smith to Lysander Spooner]; Four-page letter from Gerrit Smith of Peterboro [New York] to Lysander Spooner in Athol, Massachusetts, dated April 27, 1847, responding to Spooner's request for funds to support him during a visit to Boston as he writes his newest book. Includes list of names from whom Smith has collected funds, including S. E. Sewall, E. G. Loring, and H. B. Stanton.
