: [Request for advanced wages for Samuel Scranton to be paid to Sarah Jones]; Request for advanced wages for Samuel Scranton to be paid to Sarah Jones by Samuel and William Vernon in Newport, Rhode Island. In turn, Scranton promises to contine work aboard the Othello until the debt is settled.

: Daniel Trougeon to John Duncan; Receipt for wages paid to Daniel Trougeon [Trudgeon] by Captain John Duncan of the Brig Othello. Includes deduction from wages for 10 gallons rum "taken up from 5 July to Feb'y 19th." On back, note dated March 21, 1771 verifying receipt of payment signed by Boyle Vandeleure of Barbados.

The author writes that, "if you possibly can imagine this to be a reasonable charge, pray allow it to him - but it is more than double we were ever charg'd by those that brought off twice the number of slaves."
